Across the U.S., there were 30 million olderlicensed drivers in 2006;an 18 percent increase from 1996. Older drivers make up 15 percent ofalllicensed drivers in 2006, compared with 14 percent in1996. Currently 15 percent of Iowa’s population is age65 and older. These residents accountfor 18 percent of licensed drivers in the stateand four percent are age 80 andolder. The majority of those licenseddrivers are women (197,117) and 170,020 are male.  It is important forthese licensed drivers tounderstand Iowa’s traffic laws. This web pageoffers information on not only laws governing drivers’licenses, butother laws that impact older road users.
